About the Author
Before we get started, I’d like to formally introduce myself. My name is Hugo and I’ll be your Java teacher. Some years ago I started learning to program on my own. Simply as a hobby, but soon I realized it was something I really enjoyed. I think what best defines me is a passion for self-learning. I always try to acquire new knowledge and collect educational material wherever I can.
During my professional career, I’ve had the opportunity to work for two of the most important technology multinationals on the planet. Without previous experience and almost without realizing it, I found myself part of a technical team where data analysis and SQL skills were fundamental. Shortly after, the department evolved and I learned to train and configure artificial intelligence models. Within a few months I was promoted to project manager, and my meetings and interactions with some of the most talented software developers I’ve ever seen in my life began.
Immersed in that stimulating environment, I soon became curious about programming and, although Python was more commonly used in my environment, I decided to go with Java. At first I didn’t even think I’d manage to reach a decent level. However, with consistency and great enthusiasm, I eventually achieved all my goals and mastered this language, which has given me so many good hours in front of the monitor.
Of course, this new skill has served me well in opening doors within the corporate environment where I work. Knowing how to program professionally can always be useful, even if you’re not thinking about a change or promotion in the short term. You never know what the future holds, and it’s better to be a flexible person with as many skills as possible to offer.
At work, my colleagues have always told me that I have a great ability to teach. For that reason, I used to be in charge of showing the work process to new team members and guiding them during their first months. Thanks to this feedback, the idea of taking teaching more seriously began to take shape, and subsequently the idea of creating this book was born.
